Wildlife Pond Construction

Over the last few years we have noticed more and more people are actively looking to attract more wildlife to their gardens and in our opinion a pond is a fantastic way to do this!

All of our wildlife ponds are constructed with the same purpose, to attract more wildlife to your garden! So whether it’s a passing hedgehog looking for a drink or a dragon fly looking to deposit its eggs, we can help to set up the perfect haven for these critters whilst maintaining a safe pond so any unfortunates falling in can get out with ease.

The important thing with a wildlife pond is to create lots of crevices and hiding places for animals to hide and shelter, lots of plants to help keep the water clean as well as acting as climbing posts for the emerging dragon fly larvae and cover for other amphibians and insects.

What can be added to attract wildlife?

• Rocks edging to create crevices for newt’s, frogs and toads
• Built in planting areas – so no need for ugly plastic baskets!
• Plant areas slightly raised above the water level to create bog areas
• Sloped beaches for wildlife to safely get a drink
• Flat stepped stones that allow wild birds to bath
• Planting to offer colour and flowers from March to September

We are often asked; Can I have fish in a wildlife pond? The answer is YES but its best to stick to species that compliment the ponds Eco-system rather than being detrimental to it. So species such as sticklebacks and minnows work well!

Wildlife ponds can be constructed in all manner of shapes and sizes; so if space is limited it is still possible to have a small splash of water that’s works well!

The wildlife ponds we have created have varied in size with the smallest of around 1.5 x 0.50 metres and the largest around 45 x 25 metres.
